WEEK THREE: Welding Begins & J-Rail Removal
The metal work is on its way to completion and most of the rusted carriage bolts have been removed from the frame using bolt cutters. When I inspected the J-rail more closely I discovered that interior leaking at the corners was a result of deteriorated butyl tape at the siding joints and incorrect caulking repairs. The trim was also missing along the bottom of the camper where the siding and the floor sheeting meets which could explain why the perimeter floor framing was rot

WEEK TWO: Demo, Frame Inspection & Envelope Repairs
This week entailed bathroom demo, removal of the remaining floor and taking down the headliner. Holes in the aluminum siding were patched with Eternabond Roof Seal Repair Tape on the interior and JB Weld on the exterior. JB Weld can be sanded and painted though I anticipate repairing the siding with Bondo Body Filler where there is more extensive damage. Rust along the aluminum floor sheeting in the rear was inspected and will be replaced/welded accordingly. There is also a c

WEEK ONE : Major Demo & Questionable Regrets
When I bought this camper I knew it needed extensive work. I wanted the project. What I didn't know is that the entire floor frame was not only rotted but no longer (or by the looks of it maybe never had been) appropriately fastened, the wall framing was falling apart at all edges, the insulation was deteriorated and all interior electrical wiring completely useless. The interior has been completely removed in preparation for leak repair, new framing, new subfloor and more su

THE BEGINNING: New Project. | Challenge Accepted.
Let me start by saying how fearful/thrilled I am. Tiny homes and small space living is something I find super interesting. While this is not quite a tiny home, it's fair to say that travel trailers share many of the same design challenges on a scale that isn't completely impossible for beginners. The reason for this project isn't unique: I work a desk job and wanted a more manual project, to build something with my own hands, bring something from paper to fruition, yada yada.
